Mr. Mercedes: A Novel (1) (The Bill Hodges Trilogy)

Stephen King at his best.
Stephen King is an incredible writer and this is one of his best, the first of a trilogy, and the best of the three. In a way it is a police procedural but is guided by how one catastrophic event affects individuals and their lives.

The bodies of the dead are buried, but their lives still impact the living.
This is number 6 in the series and the best so far. The first four books were a build up of characters and locations, and the fifth book expanded more broadly and involved an expansion of the characters and of writing technique. Number 6, "Bury Your Dead" is a masterpiece of a writer's skill in carrying present and past threads of the story along two parallel lines. In my opinion the books should be read in order to fully appreciate both the development of the characters and environment as well as the stories themselves.

Part II of a Trilogy - Start with Part I - Historical Novel of the old west in the Tularosa Basin of NM
McGarrity writes well and compels the reader to keep going at a rapid clip. The trilogy is the prequel to the Kevin Kerney novels beginning with "Tularosa" and all are well worth the read.
