Opt for an OEM Part

Purchased along with a new spark plug to rectify a poor running 35 Classic engine. I did initially look at the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) part, but as this copy was a quarter of the cost and less than £7, I though what the heck, so went for this cheap option. Upon receipt it looked almost identical to the original, so I had high hopes, although the quality of the plastic was not as good, as appears a little soft. Popped it on with new gaskets, but not only were the supplied screws not tapered ends like the original, so very tight for the last few threads, but the small hole in the throttle lever belcrank for the governor link was way too small, so I had to open it up with a drill bit. Popped the carburettor on and installed the new spark plug and the engine fired up, then immediately stalled (this was not happening before), so I worked the governor/belcrank hole to make sure it was free to move and this rectified the stalling, but now the engine was hunting. Carburettor gasket was my first thought, but the carburettor came with new gaskets, so I popped the old gaskets on and still the engine hunted, so I put the original carburettor and gaskets back on and the engine ran a treat, so clearly the new very cheap carburettor was not up to the job, so a lesson learnt. Buy OEM parts, not cheap copies.
