It is well written book, thorough in it's detail, research and explanations.

Buying and Owning Your Own Airplane by Ellis
I have owned my own plane for 5 years and before that I was a member of a flying club. After reading the book, I could see that there were some things I had done very well and other things I had made mistakes on in my ownership of the plane.
This book has very good information about the costs of ownership, strategies and questions for buying, maintaining, and operating an airplane under different arrangements such as single owner, partnerships, clubs, etc. The sections about annual inspections and overhauls was very good.
There is also a very good review of planes that a first time owner would consider. I found this very informative even though some of the information (price wise) is outdated. This is the 2nd edition, 1991. It covers handling characteristics, operating costs, aerodynamic differences, histories, of different planes. It has changed my thinking as I consider upgrading to a different plane.
The area I would like to see is more information about taxes and licensing as there is a big differences between states.
