Islam Honor Treatment of Women
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich A most stunning, unusual and riveting motion picture: The Stoning of Soraya M. (2010)
Regardless of one's feelings on the whole Islam-Muslim subject now so much in the news, this film about an actual, disturbing, true case will certainly make one think. We've never seen anything like it.
Presenting a difficult and controversial subject, the people behind the film have displayed excellence in dramatic writing, cinematography, locations, and special effects, plus fascinating extra footage about all. I doubt if any observer can come away without being strongly moved.

Chillers TV series with Anthony Perkins
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich There are some 'delicious villains' and fine supporting casts performing here - both the well-written roles and their veteran performers.
I bought one disk hoping to see Ian Richardson, of whom my wife and I are particularly fond fans. He is prominently displayed on the series listings, covers, posters, etc. but we finally learned from the DVD publisher he's only in one story, which apparently is true of all the guest stars except the host.
Unfortunately this particular disk of the series does not include Sir Ian, and the published listings are not clear which guest villain (all very fine actors) is on which DVD.
I relented and bought the whole set. At least I think so. If this is what the publishers want, why put out individual discs and not just the complete set to start with?
Nevertheless, the performances, stories and direction are great! Surprisingly, host Anthony Perkins is rather wooden throughout, not the 'Mr. Congeniality' that was half of his horrific part in 'Psycho', of which this long-term Hitchcock fan is most definitely NOT a fan. But oh, those villains! And eek! - Those wonderfully crafted and directed horror tales! Spine-chilling! Lee Munsick

Badly Advertising for Excellent Item
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich Re: "Mars Invades the Earth!" DVD from early TV about War of the Worlds radio program, etc.
Orson Welles' WOW October 1938 'scare program' has always been over-hyped as to the supposed nationwide panic, but subsequent studies indicated it was overblown. The point is that it was an important and critical moment in broadcasting history. The second item on the DVD is a Lights Out program called 'The Martian Eyes' with Burgess Meredith and John Baragray, two fine actors. This 'Lights Out' sci-fi program was so popular that it was aired twice in two years.
The main feature is 'The Night America Trembled', one of two excellent TV dramatizations about the Welles radio program, this one from 'Studio One'. Issuance of this DVD is a great service to students and collectors of radio and TV, drama and science fiction, and even general public reaction to media and their history.
Unfortunately, issuers Alpha Home Entertainment (oldies.com) chose to garb the DVD package with totally lurid, misleading, incorrect and meaningless, cover artwork with no real factual connection with the original program material.
Can you say "Don't judge a book (or video) by its cover"?
This is a disservice to potential purchasers, and we think as a result, a disservice not only to the original program producers, but to Alpha Home Entertainment/Oldies itself. They should withdraw unsold copies and change the cover to something more accurate for a re-issue. This is why a rating of Good rather than Excellent.
