Square Foot Gardening Mel's Way is Always Good ...
Been doing the Square Foot Gardening method for well over 20 years since I bought my first copy of Mel's Square Foot Gardening book when it first came out. That's when I first learned about Mel's method way back then. My gardening plots varied in size over the years, with raised beds, 4 ft wide X 20 ft long, in my mini farm area of 125 ft long by 35 feet wide, about 25 years ago, to just a 10 ft X 30 foot area 8 years ago, to now doing senior citizens gardening with just 23 gallon plastic tubs for container gardening. Learned a lot from Mel's book and his gardening TV Shows. He taught me things Mom never taught me, and, I'm a 3rd generation gardner. No matter what size your garden area is, you should get plenty of veggies from each square foot when following Mel's instructions in this book. No matter if you have an older edition of this book or this newer edition, Mel's Square Foot Method of Gardening is great and worth giving a try if you haven't tried it to date...

It's about exactly what it says....
Not sure which plant or vegetable to put next to each other to get a better growing crop or gardening? Or what plant might help cut down on some of the gardening pests or bugs? Here's where you should find the answers to same, in this book, "Good Neighbors: Companion Planting for Gardeners" by Anna Carr. Don't let the long title of the book scare you away from getting a copy of this book. I've been doing Anna Carr's thing of Companion Planting for my vegetable garden ever since I came across Anna's method back in the 1980's. I actually combined it with doing some square foot gardening. Even though this book was originally written in 1955, and reissued in 1985, the info in it will never be outdated. When I relocated to a different section of the state, most of my gardening books were left behind. I only had about 3 to 4 dozen of the gardening books at that time. I had belonged to the Rodale Garden Book Club. I actually had shelves in a garage full of books. Other books were encyclopedias and books my sons used for their school projects and the like. We weren't on the Internet in those days for looking up info. I had my own section of books on gardening in the garage. I took only about half of the gardening books. Then, when I moved to a Senior Citizens development/village most of my books were again left behind. I miss having them. So, when I see a favorite one of my gardeners books from the past listed on eBay, I go for it. And, of course, this is one of my favorite ones, one that I recently added to my start over book collection. I'm not into gardening as much as I was in the past, but, with my small gardening area, the info in this book helps me in planning out a small garden and helps me in deciding what plants to combine. Even in patio container gardening. I presently have 12 tomato plants in two 33 gallon containers. Six in each one. They're caged and loaded with tomatoes right now and well over six feet tall. I'd say that they're growing well because of their enviroment and their good neighbors. Well worth learning about, gardening and companion planting for the garden, especially the vegetable garden. This book, "Good Neighbors: Companion Planting for Gardeners" by Anna Carr is worth having and re-reading and refreshing my memory of what plant does well with what plant. My tomato plants probably would even say so if they could talk....LOL.... They might even say that the Stinging Nettle, a perennial weed that is growing closeby because I'm in a woodsy area, might even be beneficial because the Soil Association in England and some gardners claim that the stinging nettle stimulates the growth of nearby plants, etc. Now, where else would you find out that piece of information? Plus tomatoes love an acidy soil and I live in the Pine Barrens/Pinelands in southern NJ, that is a heavily wooded area and loaded with evergreens - acidy soil. Got them all over and around here. The best tomatoes I've ever grown were near or next to the evergreens in both northern and southern Jersey. Would you believe that wasps and bees are attracted to evergreens? This book even says so. Those bees and wasps also help with polination, too. Yes, I have deer problems. This book says to put human hair around the plants. Instead, I handle the tomato plants, putting my scent on them, daily. The same effect, you might say. I did that after the deer found my tomato plants. They also found the rose bush, too... Oceanpeg

Method never becomes outdated, Square Foot Gardening
