Back in 1982

This movie celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2007 and it brings you back to the year 1982. It shows the almost beginning of Hip Hop, Graffitti and Breakdance, but it is often misunderstood, that this movie portrays different people of different skills in one film. Scratching, braekdancing, spraying or tagging had been invented years before but interest of film makers or local media followed years later. It`s more documentary, since the "actors" are local heroes of the movement of this days, don`t expect any skilled actors or an academy winning story. For me this movie is essential if you are interested in an wider background and it`s amazing that graffiti artists are put in the center of the story, but today Rap and Hip Hop have become a global success while Breakdance and Graffitti is only performed by a few enthusiasts around the world. Altough "Wild Style" was shot at the peak of worldwide media interest in that genre in 1982/83 it is an amazingly portray of the people, who live in wrecked communities in the Bronx, but obviously face the struggle of life between violence and drugs with a smile on their faces.
