Extremely Underrated
10/10. Alien Nine is such a fantastic and extremely underrated OVA. Anime fans of cult shows like Serial Experiments Lain will really appreciate a series like Alien Nine.
The last 3/4 of the OVA was directed by Yasuhiro Irie, (Director of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) and it shows in more ways than one. The characters are complex, and their designs are really unique. The animation is very high quality and has really aesthetically pleasing color schemes. The short sequences of 3D in the animation look a bit dated, but the incredible 2D makes up for it entirely. The soundtrack is also amazing.
Alien Nine really succeeds in catches you off guard. Some of the visuals are extremely disturbing, in very subtle ways. This show and it's imagery stick with you long after you've watched it.
This may not be every anime fan's cup of tea, but Alien Nine is one of my favorite series of all time.
Also, this show is not for kids.
