THE NIKON D90. Nothing less. Nothing more.
2 von 2 finden das hilfreich I finally decided to sell my Nikon F5 35mm film camera. I'm an amateur, but I like great equipment. I own a D100, so what next? D200? D300? D90? I could have bought the D200, new, with a Nikon USA warranty for under $850. The D300 was more than I wanted to spend, but a used (1000 actuations) Nikon D90, with a 2-year warranty was priced under the Nikon D200.
The Nikon D90 goes beyond the features of the D200 and it boasts the first "movie mode" in a digital SLR camera. Its capabilities go far beyond the Nikon F5 and the D100 and all of my AF lenses work in AF mode with the D90. Please note the Nikon D5000, introduced after the D90, will not work with AF-D lenses in AF mode.
Keep in mind, the D90 is viewed as an amateur level camera. That said, capabilities it possessed that were never part of the F5 or D100 include:
- a true AF mode that includes Program, Aperture and Shutter Speed plus separate scene modes
- on camera flash defaults to pop-up automatically if needed, especially where a subject is in a backlit scene and you require fill flash
- Use either the viewfinder or the large 3-inch display
- camera automatically adjusts to lighting, such as flourescent, where a special filter is required on the F5 and D100
- easily set the camera for delayed or immdediate shooting with a remote
- I should get close to 800 pictures with a fully charged ENEL3e battery, so right now I don't see the need for a separate battery pack
And there's probably 98% of its capabilites I have yet to explore or use. For those who like to be creative, you choose how much or how little help you want from the camera.
For me, I will never use all the capabilities of the Nikon D90, so I don't really need anything more. At the same time, lower end DSLR's, such as the D5000, will not work with most of my AF lenses.
If you don't own some of the lenses I own, I'm not sure I would step down to a model such as the D5000. Genrerally speaking, you may be able to purchase some of the lenses I own on eBay for less than they sold for new. And with any lens, what you'r interested in is image quality.
For me, the D90 is the DSLR. Nothing less. Nothing more.
