A great way to connect PCs around the house!
We live in a 2-story house. Upstairs and downstairs used to be connected by a 50m Cat-5 cable. During a thunderstorm, a lightning strike on a nearby tall Norfolk pine generated such a ground current that the Cat-5 cable blew all the line drivers in my PC AND the router!. Even though we have surge protection on all mains devices, the damage was done via the voltage impressed on the Cat-5 cable by the lightning strike (the CAT-5 cable was not connected via a surge suppressor -silly me!). I must add that all devices were turned off at the start of the thunderstorm and the damage occurred despite all devices being turned off and unplugged from the mains.
In order to prevent a repeat I purchased this Wi-Fi adapter (and several others) to put on all PCs that used to interconnect via the Cat-5 cable and router. Problem solved! The Cat-5 cable is still in place but unplugged both ends. The reason for keeping the cable is that if we need a large download, the Cat-5 cable is much faster than the Wi-Fi usb adapter (max speed 150Mb/S) however, that is plenty fast enough for internet browsing and the like.

Rarer than rocking horse poo and absolutely essential to complete the optical path for Nikon reflex lenses.
I recently purchased a 500mm f8 reflex Nikkor (new type) at a really good price. Yes, it was missing the 39mm diameter L37C UV filter and lens hood.I assumed these would be relatively easy to get. WRONG! The lens hood was easy, the filter not so! First I found one in the UK, but when it was shipped, only the envelope arrived. After scouring the Internet for weeks I found this one, located in USA; not cheap, but essential to complete the optical path in Nikon reflex lenses. This particular filter fits:
-500mm f8 old type
-500mm f8 new type
-500mm f5 (shown in first picture)
-1000mm f11 manufactured after 1973 (NOT 1000mm f6.3 nor 1000mm f11 1965 to 1973).
This filter in unique in that it has the 39mm thread on the outside of the metal ring and there are no aftermarket models made I believe.

HP Mini 5102 netbook: YES, YES, YES!
We bought the HP Mini 5102 to replace the HP Mini 2140, as the HP2140 screen resolution was only 1024 x 600 and many games and programs require a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 minimum. The Mini 5102 has a screen resolution of 1330 x 768 and plays most games perfectly!
And.. of course it does all those things one expects when on an extended (3 months) holiday. Email, browsing, Skype, chat, all completely seamless. One of the best was Google Earth; where ever we went, we could check for places to visit. (Screen resolution). We bought ours second-hand, with increased memory, wireless internet access, high capacity battery (8 hours!!) we LOVE it! Physicals are excellent too: black anodised aluminium case, you can just stroke it to appreciate the quality.
HP: keep making your stuff this good!
