Not much actual battle, but engaging
The film is set in WW2 in North Africa but actually being filmed in southern Spain does not detract from the believability. The acting is excellent, although Michael Caine is the only actor I knew before watching the film. The battle action is limited at best. The characters are given an almost insurmountable mission, and the main action of the film is the characters overcoming the obstacles in the way of completing the mission, mostly fighting the elements and terrain during the long trip through desert. While I never lost interest in the movie, I was hoping for significantly more actual battle. Without spoiling for those who haven't seen it before, I have to say I didn't care for the ending.

Good movie from the era
In the last couple of years, I have searched out and purchased many war, or war-related films, but only recently came across this title for whatever reason. I have to admit that I have a prejudice against many movies from the late 60s and 70s because of the cinematography, over-acting (Charlton Heston disaster flicks spring to mind), clothing and hair styles, plus the often-corny dialogue. War films usually escape the clothing and hair style trap because they are essentially period pieces, so I have less issue with them. Bridge at Remagen tells a good story and the acting is--on the whole--very good. The film does contain some of the exaggerated death scenes that were common before cinematography and special effects evolved to make a death more realistic without the actor clutching his belly screaming and throwing himself off a tower or, well, a bridge. The audience also has to accept that the German characters are supposed to be speaking German by the accents they adopt and--successfully for the most part--project, but it does affect the verisimilitude to a degree. I assume the producers determined there was simply too much dialogue amongst the Germans to burden the viewer with subtitles for the entire movie. The story itself is plausible and engaging, as are the characters. The film could probably have used just a bit more action to carry it, but all in all it is a good movie and worth watching and owning.

Is what it says, but could be better
This is a difficult one to review because I can't say it isn't what it's advertised to be, but that doesn't make it a good CD. There is no question that it IS authentic Spanish guitar music, but in my opinion, it is still lacking. First, it is recorded in mono and while there are no pops and hisses one may find on older recordings, it suffers from that drawback. Second, it is not very melodious, which is really what I was looking for; there are performances by individuals or small groups, but they are very bald with little to no dressing that an ensemble provides. If what you are looking for is the sound of authentic Spanish guitar without anything else, you may like this CD. If you are looking for something more melodious which incorporates Spanish guitar as part of the whole, you should probably keep looking.
