Impressive Machine
I bought this r2401 Ridgid reconditioned model after borrowing a friends earlier version. Some welcome upgrades: Quick-release and micro height adjustment (be sure to release thumb lock before micro adjusting), button chuck lock (don't need to use 2 wrenches to loosen collet), flat top lets you stand the unit on either end (nice for when changing out bits), push/pull on/off button lets you turn it off with the hand holding the unit, more grippy grip, modified dust collection on back. But most of all, visibility of work area is greatly improved-see pics. What a difference! THere's an LED that shines down to light the work surface, but lighting is not a problem so I never notice it. The only down side so far which is barely worth mentioning is that the soft start has a tiny kick to it; it's predecessor was smooth as buddah! Hardly a deal breaker, may be due to reconditioned status, but can't know for sure. Don't let the size fool you - probably the smallest one on the market (i have short fingers) but she packs a punch! About 7.25" high. Variable speed, very nice for finer, detailed work, but can still tackle a perimeter cut with a simple bit, just don't bite off too much on one pass. I make signs as gifts, this makes light work for small hands. 1/4" collet, wrench to loosen chuck included. Included edge guide is solid and smooth. A very nice, quality compact router with enough features to boast and brag with the bigger boys. THIS R2401 SHOWN ON RIGHT IN PICS, previous model on left.

Big hit with the kids
Used an off-the-shelf boxed cake mix, came out nice. Used shortening instead of oil, can't remember if I dusted the shortening w/ the powdered cake mix or not. Be sure to grease every little cranny (easier said than done!) Center filling can be anything you want, and you can pipe frosting on the top, even put a name or whatever in the big oval on top. I chose to hand wash this item, and that, too, is time-consuming. But when I brought the cake out for my son's birthday celebration, all the kids were delighted, and one even requested a reprise for their own birthday! If you were short on time, you could cut each baked half in half horizontally and get two "cookies" instead of one, albeit thinner ones (and one wouldn't be ornamental on top). MAKE SURE that your oven is level, and use a lot of batter...mine overflowed slightly, but that was so I could cut across the top of the pan before removing the cake and be guaranteed a flush, solid cut all the way across. If you don't care that the cookie is the height of the pan, you could instead use a normal amount of batter,remove it from the pan first and then cut it level. It's all about the presentation!
