No threat to Stephen King
Passes a few hours, I suppose, but it's not my personal idea of creepy or disturbing.
Straight to the charity shop.

Not my idea of chilling
This was recommended to me as a genuinely-frightening horror novel. I can only assume the person who recommended it is easily frightened.
It's perfectly readable and entertaining, and it moves along at a good pace. And there is an unexpected twist at the end. So, it ticks quite a few of my leisure reading boxes. But it's not, in my opinion, scary.

A triumph of story telling
From just the cover illustration and the blurb, I would not have chosen this. But it was recommended to me, so I gave it a try. Devoured it whole in under 48 hours and have now posted it off to a colleague for him to enjoy.
Utterly compelling and very skilfully written.
