memoir of a victorian soldier
any one interested in victorian ideals, empire and military history will like this book by a man who was there at the cutting edge which makes it all the more readable,i could not put it down.

gut wrenching but could put it down, eye opening.
the descriptions are real as eugene sledge really was there , everything done and seen is not left out, not for the squeamish ,anybody who is interested in the american battles against the japanese island hopping will be well rewarded by this powerful book.
