Not 3.5 inches
3.25 inches at best. Build quality is not bad though. But when ordering online measurements are really really important.

If you know what you doing and have space for it, this can be a good deal
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich I've noticed a lack of recent reviews of this product on the internet, and it kinda needs one.
I bought an m4097d used on ebay. I was looking for a Scansnap for my small business, but couldn't afford one, so I took a risk and bought this instead. This scanner was obviously not intended for ordinary consumers. There are a few important things you should know about this scanner:
1. Don't be fooled by the paper tray size - this scanner is huge. The tray can hold a sheet 12 inches wide, and the scanner itself is about 20 in. wide.
2. It uses a 50 HD SCSI connection. If you are like most people and don't know what this means:
- it's definitely not a parallel connection.
- finding the right connector to attach it to your computer can be difficult, confusing, and/or expensive. I think the cheapest way is to buy one of the jaz cards to attach it to a PCMCIA slot, and that can cost about 40 bucks or so - and the cable is rather short too. Make sure its a 50 HD connector - there are many types.
- you don't need a terminator, it has one onboard. Use the menu on the scanner to activate it.
3. Once you have it, getting it set up on your computer can be difficult as well. I was able to do it on my XP system using Irfanview for scanning, but I can't say how it will work on later operating systems.
That being said, I'm happy with the purchase. The thing is sturdy, and it scans large documents very quickly and in excellent B/W quality, up to 400 dpi. If I had any need to scan really big pages, that would be a major plus too. But it does not have OCR and if you try to scan something that's been stapled or folded, it will often double feed. If you set it up right, it will stop and tell you it double fed, but you typically have to scan it again anyway. The feeder indicates to put the pages in lengthwise, but I find that putting them in sideways causes far less problems for formerly stapled or folded pages.
