Updated Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 VC DI G2; is it worth the upgrade?
Purchased this newer model at a great price to replace my original Tamron SP 24-70mm VC DI USD f/2.8 (G1) used on my Nikon D750 & D780. (Tamron produced the first 24-70mm Auto Focus zoom with Image Stabilization, or Vibration Reduction for Nikon.) The new version looks more modern, slightly lighter to the feel, ruggedly built, works fine in snow storms, functions similarly as the original; however, AF on the G2 seems slightly faster, especially on my D780 and on my Nikon Z cameras using the FTZ adapter. Both lenses produce similar image quality with the G2 showing sharper corners at wide open apertures. One thing I noticed is that when using the G2 for video on my D780, it seems to have greater focus breathing than the original.

Fast, Sharp, 35mm Glass for your Nikon DX!
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich Purchased to supplement kit lens and use for small space, studio portraits with a DX body. Sharp images, focuses quickly, can produce nice, professional like portraits, however found it necessary to make CA corrections in post with high any contrast edges.

Professional Results at Prosumer Cost
2 von 2 finden das hilfreich Like you hopefully; I carefully reviewed and considered the Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD lens before purchasing it new and at a great sale price, including manufacturer warranty and extended warranty, versus buying used Nikon equivalents at about the same price or greater. I researched a few offerings and narrowed my choice down to 3 lenses; this Tamron lens, the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR and the Nikon 70-200mm VR II, to compliment or replace my Nikon 105mm f/2.8 AF-S G ED Micro prime lens.
I rented each lens for a week of shooting and shot at least one wedding with each lens. After stacking up research and my own visual review of hundreds if not thousands of images between these 3 lenses at a variety of different settings, I felt that the cost to quality ratio for the Tamron brand new with warranty and being less than the cost of used Nikons without warranties far outweighed any, very minor difference in overall quality. IMO, the Tamron ranked right between the pair of Nikons in overall image quality. The build quality seems to be on par, but I have not used any of these lenses over an extended period of months or years. Even my most detailed oriented clients wouldn't be able to see a differences in the finished products.
For less than $1000 brand new plus a 6 years of warranty, the Tamron is easily my first choice. Is it yours?
So while I enjoyed the experience shooting these three lenses, and all of them are great pro choices; the brand new Tamron made the most sense for my applications.
