Fun, action-packed Tank game with amazing multiplayer (with AI bots)
While Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye 007 were games of my childhood, BattleTanx WAS my childhood. This game is an amazing concept with a slightly interesting (if cliche) storyline, smooth gameplay, and a variety of locations in which you fight. The Campaign is fun, but the spark of this game lies in the multiplayer, which can be played with up to three other people on your N64 console. There are various gamemodes, including Capture the Flag (BattleLord), and a army-style all-out mode where there are up to four teams with 5-6 tanks on the field at once. That's ~20 tanks on the field fighting it out! The major downside of this game is that you only have three tanks to choose from. The Abrams, which speaks for itself, the Goliath Tank, which is essentially a rolling fortress with a giant pipe for a cannon, and the Moto-Tank, which is more like a treaded motorcycle if such a thing ever existed. As far as gameplay and graphics, this game has aged much better than a lot of other N64 games. I purchased this game because it was one of my favorites back from my childhood. There is a lot of sentimental value for me in this game. HOWEVER, let it be known that its successor/sequel, BattleTanx: Global Assault, is an infinitely superior game, with better levels, 10+ tanks, and more multiplayer modes. All of the tanks from BattleTanx return with sleeker and more believable skins.
