Just what I always wanted
The Carousel is beautiful. It was worth the price for this centerpiece of my Christmas Village. It was carefully packed and exactly as the seller described.

Spicy and Satisfying
0 von 1 finden das hilfreich The story was well-written and up to Sandford's usual standard. I like the "PREY" series and the main character, Alex Cross, better than the main character, Virgil Flowers in BAD BLOOD. But the added element of sexual play gives the Flowers character a more mature asset that is exciting but not vulgar.

Something Old, Something New
THE DRAGON TAKES A WIFE by Walter Dean Meyers (1995) was one of two books purchased at the same time. I also purchased THE DRAGON TAKES A WIFE by Walter Dean Meyers (1972). The two books tell the same story of Harry, a lonely Dragon, who enlists the aid of Mabel Mae, a wacky fairy, to defeat a Knight and earn the right to marry a wife. The magic spells don't work out but the story's happy ending does.
The books are special because the African American characters represent some of the cultural adaptations of the twenty-three year span in history. The street vernacular of main character, Mabel Mae, changes as the children's book moved from the time frame of the 1970s to the 1990s. The illustrations by Fiona French (1995)are as beautiful as the older, but not necessarily more engaging, artwork of Ann Grifalconi. Some people may be put off by the hip-hop language and the be-bop phrasing in both books. It's not ebonics, as some readers allege; it's street talk that represents the times.
I purchased both copies of the book for my friend,Pam, an elementary school librarian in Baton Rouge, LA. She said it (the 1972 version)was her favorite children's literature book. Unfortunately, it was lost in the waters after Hurricane Katrina flooded her school library in the lower ninth ward of New Orleans. When she added that the original book was out-of-print, I decided to turn to ebay for a possible solution. Last week, I presented both copies to her as a birthday present.
The purchase met my expectations in every way. The book was in the condition described in the ad and looked just like the photo in the picture. I am very happy with the purchase. My friend was surprised and delighted with the gift. The price was well worth the joy the book will bring to her and the smile it put on her face.
I lost a large fiction collection when my house was flooded by 4 1/2 feet of water after the storm. Finding the 1972 version of THE DRAGON TAKES A WIFE was like finding buried treasures as I scavanged through the storm wreckage rescuing my crystal keepsakes and collector's items after Katrina. The discovery of this hidden treasure on ebay made my day.
Now, I'm looking for a copy for myself. It will be a reminder of the passage of time and the value of a good book--and a good friendship.
