A fine record of his times by a marvellous artist

First class Mahler
This is a very strong performance which sounds very listenable considering that it was recorded in the Queen Elizabeth Hall where the acoustics do not favour larger orchestras.
Charles Mackerras gives a forceful performance which opens up the most gentle of Mahler’s symphonies.
I enjoyed it very much.Mackerras has left a fine legacy of outstanding recordings which show him to have been a wonderful conductor.

Great music from Antal Dorati
This is a very exciting performance of Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony full of imagination and flamboyance. The Mercury recording is first class.
