Alternator Bracket for 97 Jeep TJ
My Jeep is 23 years old, and most auto supply stores do not carry/stock some essential items for older vehicles over 10 years. Here’s the story.
A roller bearing seized up in my Jeeps engine Upper idler pulley assembly. This bearing seizure was so abrupt the force of the failure bent my idle pulley bolt and forced the pulley into the alternator bracket. The boss face of the alternator bracket assembly which the pulley is bolted/ mounted was destroyed before the engine could be shut down. The serpentine belt was displaced, and the pulley was discolored, and burred at the inboard edges. Original alternator bracket severely damaged, and gouged at critical fit area.
In a nutshell, the Alternator Bracket purchased on EBay was a direct fit. Very satisfied. The aluminum casting needed to be wire wheeled to achieve a desirable finish because of some oxidation, but that was minor. The bracket was primed and painted, and installed today.
The alternator bracket was received with a complete pulley assembly including special bolt. This was a huge bonus. My original bolt as earlier described was bent- destroyed during the bearing failure.
The only upgrade I performed was to press out the original roller bearing in the pulley ( the bearing was good but the mileage was unknown), and replace the bearing with a brand new high quality roller bearing.
I’m very satisfied with the part, and the price. Shipment was rapid. Highly recommend EBay for parts. Especially outdated parts difficult to obtain. Five stars from this DIY mechanic.
