ACS Main Drive 17t 1/8" freewheel
29. Apr 2017
Loose after less than 50 miles
The freewheel took a long time to arrive, but I guess its to be expected from a company shipping from USA to UK. The bearings seemed to be a little loose to begin with - similar to the cheaper taiwanese freewheels i have used before, but after less than 50 miles, no bedding in has occurred and the teeth wobble even more than they did to start with (much unlike the cheaper ones which all bedded in well). This, along with a disgusting clunk twice every pedal stroke as the teeth slip inside has forced me to swap back to the old, mostly worn freewheel (which solved the clunk) until I can find a better replacement. Avoid ACS and either go for a £10 Dicta freewheel or invest in a White Industries ENO freewheel.

CUISINART ICE30BCU Ice Cream / Frozen Desserts Maker Silver - B75
17. Jul 2018
Makes better than shopbought icecream
With the summer heatwave we’ve had in the UK, our family has been getting through £££ of storebought icecream a week and, deciding enough was enough, we bought an ice cream machine in hopes to save some money in the long run. We froze the bowl overnight, also collecting the ingredients for a classic ‘custard base’ (google it, very easy) to prepare the night before we wanted icecream. The machine is simple to use, throw the bowl onto the base, drop in the paddle and throw on the lid. We poured in our first flavour, mint choc chip (- the choc chips, they go in near the end) and turned on the machine, which began to whir into life and mix the liquid about in the bowl. After 15 minutes or so, the liquid had taken on a soft serve consistency and it was time to pour in the choc chips for the last few minutes of churning. I transferred the contents of the bowl into Tupperware and left it to set up in the freezer overnight - it tastes best that way! The next morning we were greeted to home made icecream that impressed us so much we went out to fetch more ingredients for another couple of batches not long afterwards. This machine really does make icecream that can outclass store bought contenders, both in taste and in value for money.
