I'd Rather Teace Peace by Colman McCarthy
Colman McCarthy is an amazing educator. Rarely does one meet someone who so consistently integrates what he believes, says, and does. This book is a superb reflection on how this maverick teacher and writer connects with his students -- whether they be those whom most in society have given up as hopeless or those at a top-ranking law school.
Professor McCarthy exudes holistic caring. In his both his writing and teaching, he practices the suggestion of Anatole France: "Do not try to satisfy your vanity be teaching a great many things. Put there just a spark. If there is some good inflammable stuff, it will catch fire."
This book is about teaching truth and nonviolence -- things that really matter.
