The Best 'Bookshelf' Loudspeaker?
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich These are as good as bookshelf speakers get; the mid-range is a little coloured, but pleasantly so and the treble as sweet as one would expect from the HF1300 / Coles-STC combination. They were purchased to provide a mid-range / treble 'standard', for comparison purposes in putting together floor-standing speakers using combinations of other manufacturer's units. Not without surprise, I preferred their mid-range to Spendor BC1s, and they haven't the slight mid-range hole of the DM2s, but then, neither the impressive bass, or their colossal inefficiency....
I ensured that my purchased pair had the black bass unit surround as I gather there is a shrinking problem with the white-coloured surrounds.

Never mind the size - enjoy the quality
Very good sound quality for the price, tho' not quite possessing the ultra-sweet treble of a 'top-of-the-range' second-hand NAD I obtained( & then regretfully returned for repeatedly glitching). The Marantz is nonetheless noticeably smoother in sound (& operation) than a clunky old basic Cambridge I'd been using to date. I build, refurbish & improve loudspeakers as a hobby (mostly of 70's vintage); hence the need for a good, reliable CD player. The Marantz CD5005 fully meets these requirements.

Excellent unit, but not a T27 equivalent
This is a smooth-sounding tweeter with a relatively 'deep' voice when compared to other quality units. It is not an equivalent of the KEF T27, or Celestion HF 2000: It doesn't extend upwards & if anything has a lower cut-off than the HF1300 which is good for 14K. So it really need to be run in conjunction with a super-tweeter - my preferences being the STC 4001, or the cheap Peerless (India) 19mm soft dome ex-JPW Monitor Gold - the T27 (not my favourite unit) will do in this role .
Where this unit scores is in the bottom end of the treble range, maybe not quite as sweet as that 'Stradivarius' of tweeters, the Celestion HF1300 & less raspy than the good old KEF T15, but it makes a pleasing neutral sound, without nasties. Most useful if you are looking to alter an X-over to reduce the upper mids coming out of, say, a quacky bextrene 8". Add this unit & confine the existing tweeter with a half uF cap is a good start to improving the sound.
