Brilliant acting, outstanding scripts, a delight to view
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich Absolutely perfect, quintessential Lord Peter. Edward Petherbridge isn't well known to American audiences, but he is an English actor of astonishing abilities to play any role from a beggar to a king. This role, Lord Peter Wimsey, came to him at the height of his powers and he is brilliant in the role. Harriet Walter, as Harriet Vane, is equally well cast and is a brilliantly strong, intelligent woman, equal to Lord Peter in every bout of verbal sparring. The roles fit the actors like comfortable old shoes, and the scripts are dazzling. A bargain at any price.

Great murder mystery, many twists and turns in the plot
Delicious murder mystery, with a "lady detective" in the tradition of Miss Marple, Miss Silver and, more recently, Kate Fansler. She is also, however, the Clerk of a Friends (Quaker) meeting, and the book is gently plumped with comment on Friends' traditions, practice and. . . quirks. If you're a Friend, there are a lot of knowing chuckles in the book for you. If you're not a Friend, you will learn a lot about Quaker ways and means. AND the plotting is fabulous.
