Inspiring drama of social change and a leader who made it happen
This film portrays a chapter in the life of Cesar Chavez, an important figure in American and labor history. It depicts some of the struggles and challenges faced by California's fruit pickers and Chavez's role in organizing them, though the film could have showed the daily struggles of those workers in a little more detail (fans of the classic American novel and film The Grapes of Wrath might find this to be almost a sequel to that story). One thing the film does very well is focus on the impact of Chavez's tireless organizing on his family life. It also leaves us with a positive message that ordinary people can make social change happen in the face of powerful and well-connected interests.
Overall, an enjoyable drama that gives us a glimpse into an important era.
