Charming and evocative.

A charming tale of various delightful French characters who show up at their customary hotel by the sea for their annual vacation. Outings, tennis, missteps by Hulot, communal dining, sight gags, and pleasant souls combine to showcase a slice of French life that has long been destroyed. It is, however, charming, as I say, and evokes what you may feel in the last warm days of autumn that are just so perfect but you know are short lived.

Save your money.

A character that sleeps on the roof with his pigeons is ludicrous. The attempt at samurai hit man was lame.

A special effects orgy.

It's wall-to-wall special effects of volcanoes and earthquakes. Interesting from a special effects standpoints but not very engaging.
