Current social issues, unsparingly examined, beautifully realized by actor Joachim Phoenix.
This is, simply put, a movie for our times. In an era of public outrage and 'defund the police', 'Joker' reminds us that no justice can be perfect. As was said in the play 'Beckett': "This country is clustered thick with laws, like trees, and if you would cut them all down to get at the Devil, do you think you could stand in the winds that would follow?" The 'Devil' in our day, is the injustice we see in our society. Should we remove all law and order to redress this, 'Joker' and his analogues, are the wind that will surely follow, and this movie warns the viewer of this with the vivid force this issue deserves.
