A different view of American history.
remember the movie Gangs of New York with D.D.Lewis? The author was advisor on that and this book tells the true story of New York and it's grungy origins.Can't put it down.Also the author has a similar book on Paris that is also excellent.

Recorded on Roulette in 1953, the CD has all the alt.takes plus all the original material.Very good transfer to digital.Smith's chord melody solos are creative and atmospheric.
