Experimentation needed for VOX
The questions above are too categorical. Their best answer would be "yes and no; it all depends."
The VOX switch turned on leaves the HT transmitting permanently as if the PTT switch is turned on permanently; so that state is not good. With the VOX switched off, it is possible to use the internal VOX setting in my Baofeng UV-B5 to operate in vox mode, but the quality of the radio's vox seems poor. I supposed I may be able to make decent use of the HT's vox with the earpiece plugged in if I experiment extensively. My impression is that the HT's vox tends to shut off too early and that I have to remember to keep "shouting" at the microphone. A lot of experimentation seems necessary. The sound in the earpiece seems quite OK. I did not pay much attention to that.

Ethernet works; USB 2.0 flash drive works in the USB 3.1 port. Untested otherwise. Bulky and not very cost-effective.
I have used it as an adapter for my Dell XPS 13 7390 laptop. The adapter works for a direct Ethernet connection to my Internet modem and works for a USB 2.0 flash drive in the USB 3.1 port. I have not tested other uses for the adapter. I am disappointd that it has no SD card slot/SDXC capability for downloads from my digicam. The vast majority of ports on the adapter seem likely to go quite unused. I wonder whether it would have been better (cheaper?, less bulky? more cost-effective?) to get adapters specific to my needs. This DA300 adapter is very bulky for my laptop's sleeve. It does not fit well in the sleeve at all.

Works excellently so far. Typically cost-effective for price.
So far so good. Especially important is to be sure one's choice of adapter has -- or is designed for -- grounding via the plug -- for example, a typical three-conductor plug with a ground conductor, as is the case with this adapter. Otherwise there could be non-grounding floating-voltage issues. zap, zap! But I've had to buy similar adapters to this one several times. It seems models like this one will eventually fail to communicate properly with the Dell laptop. A typical result will be that the adapter no longer charges the battery although it still seems to provide power to prevent the battery from discharging. There are plug/unplug / remove-battery / power-up types of procedures one can try to "rejuvenate" service, but it seems even those techniques are likely to eventually fail. So I simply plan on buying a new adapter every several months. So the right price is important in order to maintain cost-effectiveness.
