Great Idea, POOR Implemetation
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich Char-Broil's electronic ignition module is a "Nice" idea gone bad through poor design and implementation. The life span of this item is about a year. Needs to be replaced on an annual basis. The problem is not so much in the design of the module, but its placement on the grill itself. It is mounted front & center with the gas controls, which is handy, but subjects the unit to the extreme heat radiated by the cooking box. Repeated exposure to this extreme temperature environment causes the units to fail consistently.
The basic design - a magneto operated by a battery - seems to be inherently poor also. Older grills that I have owned had a spring operated SNAP-BACK magneto to generate the spark, instead of needing a battery. That design lasted the life of the grill since there did not seem to be any SENSITIVE electronics involved.
Overall, this design seems to be a MAJOR STEP BACKWARD. Probably looked good on paper to some design engineer who has never used a grill in their life. Also a great revenue generator since it has to be replaced annually.
