Zuni Fetishes, Stone Ponies and More
This is a beautifully photographed and informative book. I'd Always loved the artistry of the Zuni fetishes, but learned a lot more about the symbolism and uses of them. This book will definately give one a working knowledge of this artform and an appreciation for the artists who create it.

Nightland review
2 von 2 finden das hilfreich This is the latest in the Gear's "North American Forgotten Past" series.
The story is set some 13,000 years ago in the upper Great Lakes region. At this time it is on the very edge of the glaciers.
The story of people at war due to one man Ti-Bish" the Idiot" receiving a partial vision from Raven Hunter. The Nightland people are to go back through a hole in the glaciers to return to the Nightland. to a land of plenty where they will never be hungry again.
Though his heart and intent is pure, his vision becomes twisted into an excuse for religious genocide by Nashat, an evil council leader of the Nightland people.
Nashat's wishes. instead of the true vision given by Raven Hunter are carried out by Kakala, the war leader of the Nightland People, and his deputy, Keresa, not because they wish to or because they think it is right, but because to fail is to be locked into the cages, to be degraded, possibly go mad,or die.
However, the Sunland People have also been sent a Dreamer. Silvertip is merely a boy when Wolf Dreamer sends him a vision of the end of the world as they know it.
Sunland warleader, Windwolf, must protect the dreamer. And in his heart he would protect all of the innocents. If only to do that were possible.
Mix in Raven Hunter's true dreamer, Skimmer. Born of the Sunland people, she has turned her back on Wolfdreamer because of all of the suffering she has witnessed.
The stage is set for this episode of the never ending battle between order and chaos, peace and creativity.
The Gears, once again, give us a picture of what it might have been like to have lived in that time and place,to hope and dream of a better place. To live and die seeking it.
They have the uncanny ability to take you there. In this book you can almost feel the cold wind as it chills not only the body, but the spirit as well.
A very good read. Anyone interested in prehistory will find this en tertaining. Not only do they give us a look at the people of that time, they give us a look at the very nature of man.

Early Muskogean
A captivating tale of people inhabiting the Poverty Point area of Louisiana previous to the European arrival.
The Gears write with a feel for the nature of people. This, as all of their stories, is written with this in mind.
The story has an unlikely hero, reluctant alliances and unexpected love and admiration.
Highly recommended.
