You need this if you have a "223 match" chamber.
I put on a custom Krieger AR barrel advertised as being reamed to "SAAMI Minimum Chamber" specs. And oh boy, was it. I had to go through 5 bolts just to find one that would allow my headspace GO gauge to close with it. While headspace is at minimum, so are all other measurements. There is no room for error, and I've found about 1/4 of all factory ammo I've tried through it will not allow the bolt to close easily, or in some cases at all. So this gage allows me to be sure a particular cartridge or line of cartridges, or my own reloads meet the "minimum chamber" specs. A must if you have a "tight" 223 chamber (vs a "Wylde" or 5.56 chamber, which should have plenty of extra room all around.
