"More Robust than Cheap Copies"
I have tried a few cheaper after market remotes over the years but its worth spending the extra dollars for an original Merlin remote, especially of this design which is very robust and reliable. I don't know why Merlin ever went away from this design as I can't say the same about some of their more recent remotes.

Cheap torch which does the job - hope it lasts.
VERY cheap torch which works well. Supplied with a battery holder for 3 x AAA batteries. Also supplied with a plastic sleeve so it can be used with 18650 battery. I hope it last for years which will be the real test of quality.
