"The Thing from Another World" original
After over 50 years this film of the early 1950s holds up well. Excellent characters, camaraderie, a realistic style, help make this "The Thing" a sci-fi classic.

The Natural
If you liked The Natural and own a 4K TV, then this is a great upgrade in quality, especially the HDR.

"Gojira" versus "Godzilla"
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich I wanted a copy of the original "Godzilla" which I saw as a kid when first released in the US in 1956. I had read that the original Japanese version titled, "Gojira (1954)" was much better. I purchased the combination dvd set (50th anniversary edition) and watched both versions. I was truly surprised at just how good the original version was. There was no comparison. "Gojira" had excellent plot development, character development, editing, etc. Additionally, I had not realized just how good the musical score had been. The tie-in to the atomic bombing of Japan, and continued testing of the atomic bomb by the US is much more obvious and foreboding in "Gojira." Godzilla will no longer just be the king of tacky monsters for me. At least the original was a substantial quality level apart from the sequels and the "Americanized" and choppy "Godzilla." The booklet that came with Gojira/Godzilla also gave an excellent overview of the context surrounding the making of Gojira, and lack of time and budget to use stop action photography, as had been done by Ray Harryhausen in "Beast from 20,000 Fathoms' that premiered the year before in 1953. Special effects aside, I was impressed as just how well the film held up after over 50 years - clearly a tribute to the high level of acting and directing that was accomplished in the original, "Gojira."
