Tin Feathers, Wooden Trestles, and Iron Men
This is a terrific book about the Rio Grande Southern's "Galloping Geese." It is interestingly written, logically arranged for easy reading, and has excellent photos. I just got back from riding the Dolores Goose # 5 on the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad in Late July 2017 from Chama to Antonito. We had photo runbys at a lake below Windy Point, Tanglefoot Curve, Cascade Trestle, Rock Tunnel, and Mud Tunnel. There were also stops at other locations. It was an awesome experience from the 1940's and the book helped me appreciate what it takes to restore, and arrange for these type of excursions. The same author has another great book out on the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club's D&RGW and RGS outings over Memorial Day weekend in the late 50's and early 60's entitled "20 Bucks, Three Days."
