Interview with Mickey and Bobby ~ 1987 or 1989
I believe this is a backstage INTERVIEW WITH MICKEY HART AND BOB WEIR, probably 1989. DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE COVER PHOTO, NO OTHER BAND MEMBERS ARE INTERVIEWED. I'm not sure where, or who the interviewer is. It seems like 1989, I think they make reference to the year once. Mickey is funny, because when he starts to get bored with the interviewer's questions, he starts drumming on his legs with his hands. when the questions get interesting again, he stops. During Bobby's interview, Mickey starts drumming on the walls and objects in the room with his drumsticks. THe questions range from band longevity, solo projects, studio vs. live performance, and how they perceive their fans, and how the fans have or haven't changed over the years. My favorite question is when the interviewer asks if they keep up with technology and the times, in concert and in the studio. Bob and Mickey both have ways of responding, saying "THE TIMES KEEP UP WITH US!" I enjoyed listening to the interview, and have played it for some friends. I did feel that the case should advertise who conducts the interview, when, and where, and that it is with Mickey and Bobby only, not the whole band. You can hear either Jerry or his guitar techs soundchecking in the background.

If you like them, you'll like it.
I've been an intense fan of Bob Dylan for 30 years. I've been an intense fan of Robyn Hitchcock for 20. Robyn's favorite Dylan songs are aparently some of mine as well. THe first couple of tracks just sound like a recital, he plays the songs but seems hesitant to make them his own. THe rest of the CDs show that Robyn Loves the material and is not too self conscious about expressing himself through someone else's songs. If you know Hitchcock already, than you're probably aware of the parallels between him and Dylan as songwriters and stylists. It certainly is quite a committment to release a double album of one person's material than it is to sing one inspired cover version at a live show. It is totally appropriate that Hitchcock release a set of Dylan songs, THough he could have slowed down and been a little more involved in a couple of the tracks, rather than just rattling them off. Anyone who listens to Dylan or Hitchcock as close as I do knows that it's a waste of time to just read the song and strum the chords. If you or a friend are an obsessive Dylan collector, then this would be a great way to get introduced to Robyn Hitchcock, not as being similar to Dylan in sound, but similar in spirit and attitude. I of course had to buy it because I collect Dylan and Hitchcock, and I'm glad I did, because I love both these artists.
