Defective disc.
The disc was defective. At about 54 minutes it stopped playing properly I started it over and the same thing happened at the same place. I let it run and it started working again at about 117 minutes. This was a brand new DVD in a sealed container.

It’s a good history of the battle between Portugal, Spain and the Catholic Church.
Good movie with a young DiNero.
