The test is to play the 4th movement of Saint-Saens’s 3rd symphony, a piece that makes heavy demands on amplifiers and speakers. If it doesn’t bring tears to your eyes, there is something wrong with it. If it sounds like a live performance and makes the furniture shake, then it has passed the test.
