The Way of Women takes place in 1980 Historical Fiction
I personally love all of the writings of Lauraine Snelling, this book was not quite as exciting for me as all of her other writings that I have read.
The story revolves around the rumblings from Mount St. Helen to the weeks following her eruption. It has the lives of three women who are effected by the events that take place during this time.
I didn't quite understand why she wrote about the feelings of the Lady (Mt. St. Helens) as she has portrayed on short 1 page chapters.
The women who are portrayed in the story come from very different backgrounds yet they are drawn together through this tragedy.
Each woman deals with her fears and difficulties in different ways. Even though they are scarred by the situation they come out whole and ready to rebuild their lives.
The time each spent in the rescue center changes the way the three women see how other people are caring for each other. Even though each person at the center is dealing with missing persons, devastated homes and property in a different ways. Each of the people portrayed see ways that they can help others rather than dwelling on their own difficulties.
The neighbors that were mentioned throughout the book also reach out, this was more prevalent in 1980's than it is now, but it is refreshing to read about.
The Christian perspective in this book was not as powerful as in most of her books. Although most of her books are in a series form, this is a stand alone book. I wonder if the book continued as a series whether it might be more powerful?
I would still recommend this book for readers.

Pearl by Lauraine Snelling
This is a series by Lauraine Snelling where Four different women are highlighted. She helps you to feel what the women experienced with being in the new frontier. The changes that these Christian women bring to this ruff area are started by Ruby and her sister Opal and continued through Pearl and Amethyst. Could be read out of sequence as enough review of history given in books.
I really like the Dakota series of books, The Red River Valley 9 books are a MUST read.
Before I began reading Lauraine Snellings books I thought I DID NOT have time to read. Now I find minutes to read daily.
She makes her books so that you can smell the flowers, feel the cold and know a passion these characters have without going into any sexually explicit details.
I highly recomend any books that Lauraine Snelling writes.
