Kipling's "Jungle Book" much better read
The movie with Anne Bancroft is a reasonably accurate account of the "Homecoming" story line. A few minor episodes from the novel don't occur in the movie (the circus, cousin Eunice becoming a nun, etc.) The novel itself I felt is easily read at the 7th grade level with no challenging vocabulary other than sailing jargon. There are notable errors in vocabulary usage (tack rag, and various sailing boat references.) Descriptions of weather and landscapes tend to be repetitious. Offsetting these weaknesses are the dialogues. I would have preferred Voigt spend much more time developing the relationship between the grandmother and Dicey (she only gives this topic less than 20% of the final pages.)

Poor sniper scenario
This movie is barely mediocre in plot. The title implies a major emphasis on sniper topics, but it is little more than a 21st century 'B Western' from 1945.
