I miss SAC
3 von 3 finden das hilfreich My first MajCom assignment was SAC back in the heady days of the Cold War. I miss SAC so much. This DVD brought back some fond memories. The movie takes place in a period before I went active duty. In my day, we had BUFF's and F-106 Deltas. Nonetheless, the movie was both captivating and quite enjoyable. Jimmy Stewart as the lead role was spot-on. I have watched this movie countless times and I can't think of an actor who could have played this role like Jimmy. An added surprise was finding this movie in BluRay. I can finally put my VHS copy to rest. LOL

Well, that’s quite true, really. On L.A. channel 9, Sci-Fi Theater, and channel 11, Chiller, these however cheesy but nonetheless great, trendsetting movies not only scared the crap out of us young kids back then but served as pivotal stepping stones to what we see today on the big screen.
Having the Legacy editions and/or single dvd’s of all the great monster movies of the day – Godzilla, Rodan, Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, Creature from the Black Lagoon, King Kong, and so, so many others, this month I ordered from a couple different suppliers three movies I didn’t have – The Cyclops and both connected-at-the-hip movies, The Amazing Colossal Man and War of the Colossal Beast.
I can’t honestly tell you how many times my childhood friend and I saved the USA as we fought those monsters fiercely and bravely from my mom’s coffee table, behind well-made cardboard forts, with our original G.I Joes; remember those? I can still hear my mom get after me for firing my G.I. Joe WWII era bazooka rocket at our black and white TV screen.
The memories. I wonder if they had anything to do with me finally retiring out as a police Sgt. in my adult life? LOL The memories…….

Metaphor galore
I expected a straight up ‘us v. them’ monster movie. What I saw was a movie that used outer space monsters that served more as a backdrop metaphor for the monsters inside of us once injected into an active combat zone. Not near what I was looking for, you can't deny the human character, once removed from peace and tranquility, only to be dropped into an ongoing fight for their life.
