Accucell review
The Bulova Accutron® timepiece was designed to be powered by a 1.35 volt Mercury cell. Mercury cells provide extremely stable voltage over their entire life, which is essential to the performance of an Accutron timepiece. However, Mercury is a toxin, and batteries using it have been outlawed. The Accucell® uses a 1.55 volt Silver-Oxide cell, which also delivers a very stable voltage, but the cell is modified to deliver the necessary 1.35 volts for the timepiece.
According to my experience with an Accutron® 214 movement, the Accucell® delivers the expected performance, usually lasting 11 months to a year. I've never had an Accucell® leak or corrode, but I remove the cell from the movement as soon as it begins to lose time.
