My Hedgerow experience so far
I now have the time to spend looking at nature and eating it. I saw this book in a National Trust shop and wished I had bought it but found it on line.
I read the book from cover to cover before I started out on the hunt. I have in the past picked blackberries even as a child and made apple sauce for Christmas.
This book gave me the motivation and insight into looking at nature in a different way even as close as my doorstep, which was enlightening.
I set to work at annotating which receipes I would like to start with given the time of year and have been out picking and cooking.
I didn't want to spend money on buying expensive bottles and jars for have accumulated these by other means. I also don't want to inflict my passion onto friends and relatives to eat so I have made smaller batches.
What I really would have liked from the book was more specific pictures of the fruit as it wasn't always clear what I was looking for, in particular rosehips which I still think come in different shapes and sizes.
I would have also liked tips on freezing as I wouldn't be able to eat the fruits all at once.
All in all a very nice book I know I will get years of enjoyment and which I will regularly refer to.
