Ritz Gear™ 72mm Premium HD MC Fader ND Filter With SCHOTT OPTICAL GLASS
15. Mär 2016
A Closer Look ......
If you're looking for a Neutral Density Filter, I'm guessing you're either a professional or at least an advanced amatuer Photograher/Videographer. If you're after high quality, this may not be the ND filter for you. Why? First, this is a variable ND, which IS appealing, but it DOES add 2 extra pieces of glass to the front of your lens. Many ND filters (this one included), introduce a slight color cast to your pictures. Yes, they're meant to be "Neutral" and should ONLY be reducing the light level getting to your lens, but unless you choose a filter with more recent coating technologies, you're going to introduce a color shift. The other important thing is the optical purity. Obviously no extra "add on" filter can be optically 100%. This Ritz (and other brands too) DO DEGRADE your image resolution/detail/clarity. You may not notice when viewing your overall picture, but if you zoom-in on your captured image you'll see it. Doing a "split screen" comparison at say 400% magnification (WITH and WITHOUT the filter) will show up the quality loss. Conclusion (IMO), if you're after a LESS noticable color cast and LESS image degradation, you'd be better off paying extra for something better. I ended up investing in the "Breakthrough Photography" brand and opted for a single "fixed" ND value (single glass), rather than going with the "variable" 2 glass approach. This is slightly less convenient, but the quality of the result is far superior.
