The recording of the Chicago Orchestra with Richter as pianist is better sound quality, but Reiner was ill and so Eric Leinsdorf had to step in. this recording with the same engineers, the same orchestra, the same music in the same recording Hall the Gilles has SUPERIOR bass response, but he seems to be laboring whereas Richter is just playing Where is the Richter recording sounds thin and the piano doesn’t have any bass at the bottom. I choose the recording quality of the Gilels, but the piano playing of the Richter! unfortunately, there’s a bad edit in the richard version where you can actually hear that they spliced the tape= Ouch! having experience splicing tape, I can’t imagine how this got through???
