Lucky Man? Lucky ME, the listener!
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich Very enjoyable audiobook! Fox has a great perspective on his career, family, fame, and illness. He also happens to be a very good writer who delivers a profoundly honest view of his successes and failings with warmth, charm, and a winning vocabulary. There's nothing maudlin or pitiable here, but his is no Pollyanna story either. Michael J. Fox's tale (ha!) is interesting, entertaining, and steeped in hope.
I'm so glad he was able to record the audiobook in his own voice, as there may come a time when Parkinson's Disease claims his speech.
Note: I wouldn't recommend this for young listeners because Fox drops some F-bombs and other expletives.

Game show icon is a warm story-teller.
Listening to this audiobook is like sitting on your grandfather's lap while he tells stories. And, like a grandfather, he can sometimes repeat himself a little bit but I didn't mind because he had my attention all along.
Bob Barker has led an interesting life, from being raised on an Indian reservation (he's part Sioux), becoming a fighter pilot in WWII, getting his start in radio, being part of the early days of television, and ultimately becoming a fixture in our homes and lives. He's also an animal rights activist, which at times forced him to have to choose between pleasing his sponsors, meeting his contractual obligations, and being a friend to animals.
The audiobook is very warm and positive. Bob speaks respectfully of EVERYONE with whom he has associated for over 80 years, so if you're looking for dirt on "Barker's Beauties" or other game show hosts, you won't find any here. Heck, you won't find a single cuss word. What you will find are nice stories about good people who dreamed big, made the most of opportunities that came their way, and enjoyed a rich life.
