“Just take it up to the attic,”
my grandmother said when she didn’t want to deal with stuff. This included the cherished postcard collection of her relative who died in 1925. Cartons of her cards have been in various attics and basements over the years. I recently assumed responsibility for several of the cartons, and I am posting the best of them for sale. All my listings are original cards from this collection.

She wrote of the simple things—family, love, and traditions in the early years of the last century.
This hard-to-find book describes the unbelievable hardships of a very talented poet/writer in the early part of the last century—she and her spouse relied on their own farm for most of their food, which Mrs. Mahnkay then preserved for the winter ahead. They also owned little stores in various country towns. Hard times were part of life, including the tornado that killed one of their children. As a woman, her life was controlled by her husband, who made all decisions, like where they would live and when they would move to another town, or when her favorite farm animal would be sold. This book is a good read and not as depressing as my narrative might suggest. Her poetry is beautiful. She wrote for country news and in 1935 she was treated to a trip to New York City to receive an award as the winner of the Crowell Publishing Co's contest for the best country correspondent in the US/Canada.
