Worth the upgrade if you already have the platform

I upgraded from an i5 4690K to the i7 4790K. At 4.7 GHz it matches the IPC of the Ryzen 3000 series. A nice boost in performance without also having to replace my Z97 motherboard and 2400 MHz DDR3 RAM.

Nice basic Z97 motherboard

I needed to replace a Gigabyte Z87 motherboard that lost a RAM slot. This board is the Z97 equivalent of my previous board and performs as expected. I'm running an i7-4790K overclocked to 4.7 GHz. This board was listed as #B-1 and has a minor scratch that I'm guessing happened when the previous owner tried installing a CPU cooler. It performs perfectly and the scratch is merely cosmetic and I don't even notice it once the computer was put back together.
