Could have been a contender
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich I was eager to have one of these boards. In theory it is everything I could want, small, powerful, well-balanced. I have one of the first generation of Supermicro mini-itx motherboards, with an 8-core atom processor and 4 network interfaces. It was time to upgrade, so I bought this. It didn't matter to me that it doesn't have a PCI-E x16 slot, x8 is just fine for my purposes. But as the board doesn't have an m.2 I have to use the OCulink to connect an NVME SSD, and that's where the problem is. The location of the OCulink connector, and the head of the cable, preclude me from using a full-length, full-height controller card, as I have been using with the previous board.
This shortcoming is mentioned nowhere that I have seen, but it greatly reduces its value to me. That, and the time investment in selecting parts and dis-assembling the previous system only to learn that this system can not function as desired leaves me very unhappy. I will take extra care in the future when considering a Supermicro purchase, as their recent design flaws constitute an epic failure in my opinion.
