Well deserves its reputation.

It is very well built and feels very solid in your hands, however not many shooters of modern DLSR"s would like it very much due to this. It is very capable in the right hands. The fact that some functions are dependedant on expensive accessories is a bit of a negative. Overall deserving of its reputation and history of being well liked.
