Visually arresting, beautiful, ugly, and painful: THE FAMILY OF WOMAN
The book is a photographic exploration of womens' lives and experiences across cultures, classes, and age groups.The images run the gamut from heartbreaking to joyous to tender to angering to jubilant---yet it's an immensely disciplined work as far as editing goes.

In many ways it's his best possible memorial, with his iconic 1930s hero beautifully illustrated, along with that improbable clutch of pals, gal-pals, hard-nosed cops and menacing villains. Dave's period research makes that world vibrantly alive, and draws the reader in almost irresistably. It's the best work of a fine, meteoric talent.
